Voluntary Arts Sector

I believe it is important to make good use of our skills and expertise to help benefit and improve our local communities

As an artist and an individual, I am a keen supporter of the voluntary arts sector in my local area and realise it is just as important to give back to our local art communities and to help facilitate connections between local art networks.

As a result, since 2010 I got involved with our local, regional open studios art event, Cheshire Open Studios, which is organised by a voluntary group of local artists to help support artists that live and work in the region by enabling them to open their studios to the public in order to connect with their communities. Initially, as a committee member and later nominated as the new project coordinator in 2011. As a voluntary organisation supporting artist and art in the region, we have also been involved with various projects that help the community engage with artists and art such as a BIG DRAW event, projects with local schools and various public engagement activities.

Since then I have expanded into supporting my local gallery, Castle Park Arts Centre in Frodsham as an arts committee member since 2016 who organise the annual open exhibition that enables both amateur and professional artists to showcase their work.

Around the same time, I joined CWVAN as a board member for the Cheshire West & Chester Voluntary Arts Network which supports networking between the voluntary arts sectors in the region, for which I represent the Visual Arts sector.
